Notes

This phrase can be used in different scenarios, including to show gratitude, just in passing, or even as “verbal filler.” The Muslims are instructed to make du’a for their brothers and sisters in faith, and this is one way to do so.

If you hear a Muslim make du’a for you, you should return it, hence the response to this phrase is “wa feek barakallah” or “wa iyyaki.”
